OnePointOne’s Organic Certification – A New Era in Vertical Farming

By: The OPO Team

We’re excited to announce that OnePointOne’s (OPO) indoor vertical farms are now Certified Organic! This makes us one of the very few vertical-plane hydroponic farms in the U.S. to earn this distinction. Certified by Where Food Comes From Organic, this is a significant milestone that reflects our dedication to delivering fresh, local, sustainable, and genuinely organic produce.

What Does Organic Certification Entail?

Organic certification is a rigorous process that ensures OPO’s agricultural practices meet stringent standards set by organic regulatory bodies. These include practices that exclude synthetic pesticides, herbicides, and genetically modified organisms (GMOs)—things that OnePointOne has been doing since our inception. Our system is already a completely controlled environment that does not require pesticides at all. However, our commitment to these practices is not just about meeting the minimum requirements; it’s about feeding our customers with the cleanest, safest, most nutritious products.

How did OPO Achieve Organic Certification?

OPO’s farms deliver nutrients to the roots through a hydroponic solution. Previously, synthetic nutrients were dosed into our nutrient solution which were fed to the roots during irrigation—beneficial bacteria were only a minor part of the process. Now, OPO’s farms rely heavily on beneficial bacteria in the nourishment of the plants, as well as the prevention of pest and disease. This method of plant nourishment mirrors the soil much more closely.

The Significance of Organic Certification

Organic certification is more than just a label; it’s a promise to our customers. It guarantees that the food you consume is grown in a way that prioritizes environmental health, sustainability, and transparency. For consumers, it means access to produce that’s free from synthetic chemicals, grown with care for the planet, and backed by a trusted certification process.

This certification also positions OnePointOne and our consumer brand Willo at the forefront of vertical farming. By combining cutting-edge technology with organic farming principles, we’re not only redefining how food is grown but also setting new standards for what consumers can expect from their produce. Our now-organic products will be available to consumers in Arizona under the Willo brand in early 2025.

How We Achieved This Milestone

Our journey to organic certification was driven by OnePointOne’s innovative Opollo™ farming technology, which integrates AI, robotics, and a proprietary nutrient management system. This advanced technology allows us to cultivate crops in a controlled environment, optimizing growth conditions while maintaining organic standards. The result is produce that is as nutritious as it is sustainable.

Looking Ahead: The Future of Organic Vertical Farming

Achieving organic certification is just the beginning for OnePointOne and Willo. We will not stop until Willo Organic Produce is available to every American at affordable prices. We believe organic farming is the future of all fresh produce as humanity reprioritizes personal and planetary health over profit.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us. Together, we’re growing a better, healthier future.
